week 7

The ancient greeks were a race of very religious people who believed strongly in their gods and goddesses. Not only did they believe in the presence of their gods, they believed gods often intervened in their lives. They would perform prayer and sacrifice in respect to the gods. The gods are biased towards humans. A god might take a liking toward a human, and do whatever it takes to make sure the subject is prosperous in whichever manner intended. This is illustrated with Athena and odysseus, feeling compassion for him and states that her ”heart breaks for Odysseus, he suffers torment.” she pleas zeus to assist him on his journey home. on the other hand, in contrary to that scenario, Poseidon absolutely hates odysseus, has blinded his son and is “forever fuming against him”(1:82). proving theres multiple sides to the relationship with gods and man.
